Admission to the Minor in Society and Health is based on submission and approval of an application. Interested students will need to have completed at least 6 hours of pre-approved SOHE electives that will not be credited towards the student’s major to be eligible to apply to the minor. The application process consists of submitting a copy of their transcript, resume, and an essay. The essay should be about the student’s academic and career goals and aspirations and how it aligns with the Society and Health minor. Students accepted in the minor will complete 18 hours of coursework which includes completing one of the two core classes, Society and Population Health (SOC 370/HON 315) or Medical Humanities (SOHE 329); a statistics course, Elementary Statistics (MATH 115) or Statistics for Behavioral Sciences (PSY 202); and 12 hours of electives from a list of pre-approved courses with a grade of C or higher. The application process will consider a student’s performance in the initial required course, overall GPA, and essay on academic and professional goals related to society and health (1-3 pages).

     Spring 2024 Application due date: February 29, 2024 Extended to March 8, 2024!

Application consists of the following.
1. Fill out the SOHE applicant information sheet.
2. Send in the following documents to Lynn Woo at lcwoo@olemiss.edu.
a. A copy of your current transcript. If you have transferred credits to the University of Mississippi from a different institution, please also include a copy of your
Transfer Equivalency Report
b. A copy of your resume
c. An essay about the student’s academic and career goals and aspirations and how it aligns with the Society and Health minor
