Admission to the Minor in Society and Health is based on submission and approval of an application. Interested students will need to have completed at least 6 hours of pre-approved SOHE electives to be eligible to apply to the minor. The application process consists of submitting a copy of their transcript, resume, and a personal letter. The personal letter should be about the student’s academic and career goals and aspirations and how it aligns with the Society and Health minor. Students accepted in the minor will complete 18 hours of coursework which includes completing one of the two core classes, Society and Population Health (SOC 370/HON 315) or Medical Humanities (SOHE 329); a statistics course, Elementary Statistics (MATH 115) or Statistics for Behavioral Sciences (PSY 202); and 12 hours of electives from a list of pre-approved courses with a grade of C or higher. The application process will consider a student’s performance in the initial required course, overall GPA, and essay on academic and professional goals related to society and health (1-3 pages).
